The Importance of Dental Checkups
Why do I need regular dental checkups?
Patients need regular checkups to help with the early detection of cavities, inflammation of the gums, gum disease, and possible fractures in the teeth.
How often should I get a dental checkup?
Dental checkups should be done twice a year along with dental cleanings. If not, at least once a year for a thorough checkup of your mouth.
Can dental checkups prevent oral health issues?
Absolutely. Dental checkups can prevent oral health issues by detecting any potential damage to the teeth or gums early.
What is included in a dental checkup at Premier Smiles?
When a patient comes for a dental checkup at Premier Smiles, we normally do a video exam, which involves using an intraoral camera and taking different snapshots of the patient's teeth. If the patient hasn't had x-rays in a while, we will do digital x-rays to detect any possible bone problems or hidden cavities in the teeth. We also perform a cleaning if the patient hasn't had one in a while.
How long does a dental checkup take?
A dental checkup along with a cleaning normally takes about half an hour to 45 minutes.
Do dental checkups hurt?
Dental checkups are a very simple procedure. They do not cause any discomfort to the patient. They're primarily for diagnostic purposes and help detect early problems the patient might have.
