You may have heard about gingivitis (gum inflammation) and about periodontitis (gum disease). The connection between both of these dental problems is that left untreated, gum inflammation will lead to gum disease, which is the major cause of tooth loss in adults.
Gingivitis is caused by the buildup of bacteria (plaque) on the tissues that surround the teeth. The gums will become inflamed and will begin to bleed during brushing. The teeth are still planted in their sockets and no tissues damage has been done in this stage. Some symptoms include red, swollen and bleeding gums in addition to bad breath. When gingivitis progresses into periodontitis , the gums begin to pull away from the teeth creating small pockets. The pockets deepen and more gum tissue and bone are destroyed. Bacteria will get there and you will finally lose your tooth.
Good news is that gingivitis can be prevented if you practice a good oral health care. Moreover, there are some home remedies that may be used.So you can try one of the following remedies in order to treat gingivitis:
– it can be very useful in healing gums inflamed by gingivitis. Salt water has disinfectant qualities and can help the body to heal. It also reduces bacteria in the mouth, remove particles of food and relieve bad breath. You should do this rinse two or three times per day, but not for too long. This is because salt water could have negative effects on your enamel and destroy it.
– some research suggested that turmeric gel prevent plaque and gingivitis. It has anti-inflammatory properties, it is antimicrobial and anti-fungal. People should apply the turmeric gel to the gums and leave it for 10 minutes before rinsing with water and spitting the water out.
–it is a technique that involves swirling oil around in your mouth for 20 to 30 minutes. It will kill harmful bacteria, improve your oral health and combat the buildup of plaque. You can use coconut oil and Arimedadi oil. After the procedure, you should rinse your mouth with water, spit the water out and drink a glass of water after. Then brush your teeth. If you have sinusitis, do not use Arimedadi oil.
In order to reduce gum inflammation, you should also eat more fiber and omega-3 and also eat more yoghurt. According to a 2009 study in Journal of Periodontology, a specific type of green tea antioxidant may block the spread of bacteria. So drink green tea as often as you can.
As a conclusion, gingivitis may be prevented and treated at home. Do not forget to have a good oral healthcare and to treat the first signs of gum inflammation. The sooner you discover this mouth issue, the better. For any inquiries, please contact Dr. Arhiri.
