What Is a Smile Makeover?
A smile makeover is a personalized treatment plan designed to restore both the function and appearance of your smile. While many smile makeover procedures are cosmetic, they often include restorative dentistry as well. Depending on your individual needs, treatment may involve multiple procedures that work together to create a healthier, more functional, and more attractive smile.
What Is the Goal of a Smile Makeover?
The goal of a smile makeover is to restore proper function while creating a smile that looks natural and feels healthy. We sometimes refer to this as smile rejuvenation because your smile is one of the most noticeable features of your face.
Many patients choose a smile makeover because they want to look younger or address years of wear and tear. Patients with worn, broken, cracked, stained, or missing teeth are often excellent candidates for treatment.
Depending on your needs, a smile makeover may include a combination of procedures such as dental crowns, dental veneers, root canal therapy, tooth extractions, dental implants, or dental bridges. These treatments work together to restore both the health and appearance of your smile.
What Are the Benifits of a Smile Makeover?
In my opinion, the greatest benefit of a smile makeover is improved oral health. A healthy mouth supports your overall health. The next benefit is restoring function so you can chew comfortably, enjoy a normal diet, and increase the longevity of your teeth. Of course, another important benefit is helping you look better, feel more confident, and achieve a more youthful-looking smile.
Is Sedation an Option During Smile Makeover Procedures?
Most smile makeover procedures require local anesthesia. In some cases, we also offer nitrous oxide, or laughing gas, to help patients feel more relaxed during treatment. Because some procedures, such as placing dental crowns or dental implants, can be more involved, we want to make the experience as comfortable and painless as possible.
Recovery is usually fairly quick unless your treatment includes tooth extractions or dental implants, which require additional healing time. Recovery varies from person to person, but most patients are able to return to their normal daily activities without significant downtime.
What Is the Recovery Process After a Smile Makeover?
For the first few days after treatment, it is important to be gentle with your gums while they heal. Brush and floss carefully, use any recommended mouthwash, and choose softer foods instead of hard or crunchy foods until you feel comfortable.
If you have questions about whether a smile makeover is right for you, we'd be happy to discuss your treatment options and help you determine the best way to restore your smile.
